Opportunity

In light of recent business growth, Safety Futures identified the need to move away from their off-the-shelf platform, MyQuest, and develop a purpose-built learning management system (LMS) to meet their specific requirements in delivering safety learning material to professionals across various industries internationally. While MyQuest played a crucial role for the business for a time, the platform became limited as the business evolved and opportunities for global expansion emerged.

Our goal was to resolve existing pain points, particularly in reporting functionality, and realise future opportunities with a bespoke LMS. We focused on essential features that would deliver the most value to the user experience while identifying opportunities for further enhancement post the launch of an MVP.

Approach

To develop an initial MVP that would serve as a solid foundation for future enhancements, we took a proactive approach to feature roadmapping, strategically prioritising any ideas that arose from our stakeholder workshops to ensure that we were focusing on key areas that would have the most significant impact.

Along with stakeholder workshops and UX research into peer platforms, our Exploration phase focused on mapping user profiles to inform design and flow mapping of key features, specifically the purchase and enrolment process and 1:1 chat. We also explored the requirements across user roles such as participants, facilitators and administrators, and scoped the types of reporting that would need to be captured within the platform to distribute to key stakeholders in an intuitive and automated way.

Solution

The outcome was a robust learning management system that leveraged bespoke functionality for Safety Futures to effectively deliver safety education material to their users. In moving to a custom solution, we collaborated with the team to define the most effective format of program material delivery, which translated to the development of structured program modules to enable consistent delivery and comparative reporting while empowering the team to edit content. 

To measure the success of program delivery, we implemented reporting functionality to align with Safety Future’s internal needs as well as key stakeholders like major company clients to increase team efficiency and reduce admin time. We created reporting templates to reflect a number of measures such as program engagement at the participant level, company level and program level.  

​​We streamlined internal processes by incorporating the enrollment and payment procedures into the Safety Futures platform, enhancing efficiency through a stepped enrollment form and integration with Stripe. Other integrations included Accredible for customised badges and certifications, promoting participants’ completion of Safety Futures programs to be shared socially. Calendly was also embedded for scheduling lectures and tutorials across time zones.

To create an engaging user experience, we introduced a 1:1 chat for participants and facilitators to communicate throughout the program duration. Additionally, a notes function was developed, allowing users to highlight specific information within program materials for future reference.

Outcome

With the successful launch of the MVP, we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Safety Futures team to develop the platform even further and bring to life the product roadmap.
